The 2025–2026 Edmonton Dotmocracy Project is the next step in our community engagement process. From 2022 to 2025, we hosted Nine Community Talks across Edmonton, Alberta, where residents shared their insights on extreme weather, local economic opportunities, and potential energy solutions. Now, we are inviting you to help validate and refine those community-identified priorities.

Dotmocracy Booths are interactive spaces where you can vote on key community statements developed directly from our session findings. These booths are designed to confirm whether earlier insights still reflect current perspectives and to ensure community voices remain central to the process.

To make the experience welcoming, we are offering giveaways such as recycled-material tumblers, hats, and Biolite lanterns for participating community members. Families are encouraged to attend. Children will find a playful and inclusive space with coloring books, crayons, and stickers.

We are also sharing two-page summaries of each Community Talk session. These concise documents highlight the ideas, concerns, and perspectives raised by participants.

The goal is simple. We are creating a space where your voice matters and where community-driven solutions take center stage.

Changes in our economic, social, and environmental landscape are impacting people in Canada across all walks of life. Join us as we bring together community members to talk about your ideas and solutions for community development and diversification.

Community Talks Programs

Community Talks Initiative within Iron & Earth

Community Talks achieves two important goals:

ONE: Puts your community into the conversation. Our reports can be used to advocate for community, and worker concerns, interests, and desires.

TWO: Helps make connections for the organization and provides information to help advise how our programs can align with the community, workers and be executed in the most productive ways.

We’re here to make a positive impact together!

Our Work

Iron & Earth has operated the Community Talks Initiative in Edmonton since 2023. Edmonton’s size and diversity require an engagement approach which follows the City of Edmonton ward map. Community Talks sessions took place in three wards: O‑day’min (Downtown), Dene & Sherwood Park (Northeast), and Karhiio (South Edmonton).

Phase 1:
From 2023 to 2025, nine Community Talks sessions occur, three in each ward. Each session produces an individual report, available on the reports page here.

Phase 2:
To validate Phase 1 insights, Dotmocracy booths launch across the same ward areas. Between 2025 and 2026, 15 Dotmocracy events will throughout the city, bringing findings to the broader public. This phase supports validation, expansion, or adjustment of final conclusions. A comprehensive findings report follows Phase 2.
