Métis Nation of Alberta
Energy and Climate Change Community Engagement Sessions – Métis Nation of Alberta
Locations: In-person and online (see below for more details)
Do you work in the energy sector or have thoughts about the transition away from fossil fuels? All Citizens of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government are welcome for conversation about where our energy comes from, the changing climate and how we advocate for Métis needs.

The 2025 Dotmocracy Project is the next step in our engagement process. From 2023 and 2024, we hosted three Community Talks events in Surrey, British Columbia where community members shared their insights on extreme weather, local economic opportunities, and potential energy solutions. Now, our goal is to validate and refine those community-identified priorities through Dotmocracy Booths: interactive spaces where you can vote on ideas and confirm whether earlier findings still reflect current perspectives.
Our booth features an interactive Dotmocracy board with four key community statements for community members to vote on created directly from our session findings:
Easy access to subsidized air-conditioning units
Functional and safe pedestrian infrastructure
Every workplace has a responsibility to act more sustainably
Community ownership of new solar energy systems
To make your experience even more welcoming, we’ll have fun giveaways like recycled-material tumblers and hats, plus Biolite lanterns for participating community members. Families are encouraged to join—children can enjoy coloring books, crayons, stickers, and a space that’s both playful and inclusive.
We’re also sharing condensed two-page summaries of each of our previous sessions, packed with insights and community perspectives.
The goal is simple: to create a space where your voice matters and where community-driven solutions take center stage
Changes in our economic, social, and environmental landscape are impacting people in Canada across all walks of life. Join us as we bring together community members to talk about your ideas and solutions for community development and diversification.
